Home Truths with.... Matty Souter
In Episode 6 of Home Truths, we hear from Matty Souter of RYSE - a Blairgowrie based creative agency.
Can you tell us a little bit about what you do for a living?
I am the founder and CEO of RYSE - Perthshire’s leading creative agency.
We have had a busy start to 2025 with the launch of our own new branding and the announcement of our digital partnership with St Johnstone. It’s shaping up to be an amazing year and I’m lucky to have such a talented team around me. Outside of RYSE I am an associate director at St Johnstone and a dad so life is busy but I wouldn’t change it.
What was the first job you ever had?
I was a car salesman at Perth Citroen on the Dunkeld Road. I was there for over a year but at 18 years old I couldn’t handle giving up my weekends any longer! It was a good experience and I learned things from that which I still use today.
Who has been the biggest influence on your own career?
My dad was my biggest influence. He always encouraged me to make my own decisions and to never afraid of failing. When I told him I was quitting my career to start a business, he never expressed anything negative. He told me he believed in me and that I should go for it if that’s what I wanted to do.
I think more people should be encouraged this way from those around them.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
We have two children so anything that involves spending as much time with them as possible. I love to play golf also so we will be playing that as much as possible. I live two minutes away from Blairgowrie Golf Club so we spend a few evenings a week going round the wee course, you just can’t beat it.
What’s one bit of advice you have received that still resonates with you?
It’s not technically advice but my father gave me a poem called If by Rudyard Kipling shortly before he passed. It’s something that I read almost every day.
What is your personal definition of success?
Unlocking the ability to make decisions without being shackled by financial or time restrictions.
Achieve personal goals such as having a family or achieving the career you want. Most of all being content and happy.
If you could go back and give your younger self some words of wisdom what would they be?
Just to go for it.
