Home Truths with.... Michelle Henderson

In the first installment of our new 'Home Truths' interview, we hear from Michelle Henderson of HH Mortgage Consultancy. 

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do for a living?

I am a Mortgage & Protection Consultant which means I help people buy a property.   Everyone’s circumstances are different, I provide advice that is bespoke to each client to ensure they get the most appropriate advice. I enjoy taking people through their home buying journey and sharing their excitement.  It is great to be part of people’s new chapters in life.

What was the first job you ever had?

I worked in a newsagents in town every Saturday and Sunday and also a restaurant.  I used to work in the newsagents 11.30am to 5.30pm and run round to the restaurant to start at 6pm and finish at 11pm then back to the newsagents on Sunday.

Who has been the biggest influence on your own career?

My mum, she is my inspiration, she has worked so hard and always been there to help guide me and I want to continue to make her proud.

In 1999 I worked in The Royal Bank of Scotland over the summer, at the end of the summer, I was offered a job.  Mum also worked in the bank at that time and she later told me that the manager asked her if it was ok to offer me a job.  Mum told her that that if she didn’t and I found out, she would never here the end of it.  Here we are 26 years later and I am still in financial services.  Mum has always allowed me to find my own path and it feels good to follow in her footsteps.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love CrossFit and lifting weights, it keeps me sane.  I am also learning Spanish.

What’s one bit of advice you have received that still resonates with you?

To only regret the things that you don’t do.  Take the chances, life is short, be with the people that make you smile. (I know, that is more than one, oops).

What is your personal definition of success?

Being happy, knowing that I am helping people and being a good mum.

If you could go back and give your younger self some words of wisdom what would they be?

Always trust your gut instinct.
