This week Possible meets……… Karen Lang of Lang’s Food.
Can you tell us a bit about your business?
The Lang’s enterprise started way back in the early 80s by my parents Jim and Morag Lang. A Butchers Shop, Outside Catering & Licensed Grocers. I grew up with the busy catering life from a very young age and had my first turn at waitressing when I was 12. I joined the business full time in 2010 and fully took over in 2016, that’s when I evolved the business into Lang’s Foods. I wanted to create a business that had the customer at heart. With realistic prices, excellent handmade products and prepared to go that extra mile. We are based with the Inveralmond Business Centre in Perth and hosts a very welcoming in-house Cafe. We also provide Catering for Celebrations & Events and Produce Ready Made Meals for delivery.
How has the last 12 – 18 months been for you professionally and personally throughout the COVID-19 situation?
I’m not going to lie, when the announcement for the first lockdown was made it was a panic, everything cancelled!! But we created various new delivery services to keep the business open. A delivery service of Ready Made Meals, Afternoon Teas, Themed Buffet Boxes. All of which still thrive and continue to be popular.
Tell us about the first time you ever moved out of your family home and rented/bought your first property?
It was back in 2007. My first house purchase, a bungalow in Blairgowrie. It has gone through various changes over the years and I still currently live there.
Which parts of Perthshire have you lived in and are there any that you liked the most?
I have lived just outside Meikleour this was my childhood home and I absolutely loved living there.
What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
We carried out a loft conversion at the start of this year and that’s now my new bedroom and is most definitely my favourite room in the house.
In your opinion, what is it that makes a house a home?
Pets make a house a home. I have Chihuahua called Poppy who is nearly 10 and a new edition to the family, Hamish a very fluffy bunny rabbit who loves nothing more than to chew on anything that gets in his way!!
Why do you think Perthshire is such a popular location for buyers from all over parts of Scotland and the UK?
Perthshire is really central to all major Cities and is a beautiful part of the country.
If you could have your dream home, anywhere in the world, where would it be and tell us a bit about what it might have in it and look like?
My dream home would be a villa on the Beach Front in Barbados or Jamaica. It would have a swimming pool and cocktail bar.
