Possible meets.... Scott Findlay of the Cherrybank Inn
This week's guest is a familiar face on the social scene, not because he is out and about every other weekend himself, but because his premises is such a popular place for many locals across the city and beyond to visit. Indeed this growing popularity has allowed him to increase the capacity again and again in recent years and it sounds like he may not be finished yet. Lockdown has proven to be particularly difficult for his industry but if the buzz surrounding this particular business re-opening is anything to go by, he's going to be just fine.
Can you tell us a bit about your business?
My dad bought the Cherrybank back in 1999 and I never really got involved properly until 2013 when I retired from football. I now run the business but my dad is still there in the background for any advice or guidance. 40 years in the trade (you can’t buy experience). We have moved the business on massively over the last 5/6 years and doubled the size of the Cherrybank by extending the building to add another 30 seats inside the lounge/restaurant area and also adding our 80 seater balcony with an electronic roof system and 80 seat beer garden and outside bar. I’m always looking at ways to improve and keep things fresh. I have a great team of staff and brilliant regulars so we are very lucky.
How has the last year, throughout the COVID-19 situation, been for you professionally and personally?
The last year has been very difficult due to covid as we have been closed for 9 out of the last 12 months but I’ve always tried to remain positive and look at ways of progressing the business during this time ready for reopening.
Tell us about the first time you ever moved out of your family home and rented/bought your first property?
Was in 2007 Charlene & I bought a house in Lammermuir Gardens which was a brilliant street with great neighbours and we were there for 9 years.
Which parts of Perthshire have you lived in and are there any that you liked the most?
I’ve only ever lived in Oakbank or the Western Edge.
What’s your favourite room in your home and why?
I love the kitchen and spend most my time there. Not cooking as I’m rubbish at it but it always seems to be the hub of the house and looks out over the garden and the hills at the back of our house which I like.
In your opinion, what is it that makes a house a home?
Family is what makes a house a home. 3 kids running about so it’s never quiet in our house!!!
Why do you think Perthshire is such a popular location for buyers from all over parts of Scotland and the UK?
I think Perthshire is so popular due to its accessibility to all parts of the country and also its incredible countryside.
If you could have your dream home, anywhere in the world, where would it be and tell us a bit about what it might have in it and look like?
I would say Portugal Val de Lobo area. We have been there a few times on holiday and love the area. The house would be leading down to the beach with views out and close to the golf courses.
